Updating Minstrel Is Updating
Jun. 2nd, 2010 09:52 pm-- I'm house-and-dog sitting for two weeks. My charges (hereafter referred to as IRF (for Irresistable Force) and IMO (for Immovable Object) 8) have been very well-behaved--I don't think they've figured out yet that I'm a Cat Person (tm). We have explored the immediate neighborhood in depth and explored different sections of the park a few times. This neighborhood's section of the park is lovely. The house's amenities are most enjoyable. I've learned that the TV provider has all-music channels, which are a nice commercial-free supplement to the radio. I was also pleased to learn that the computer supports the Pandora website, and happily set to work finding and "creating" radio stations ("early music by DJ Judith", "Blame It On The Bossa Nova" (I find it relaxing) and "Hallelujah Radio" (90's and 00's male vocals). If anyone is curious, Pandora claims to make station-sharing possible (through FB, I think).
--Last night I watched a classically-trained singer butcher Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" on "America's Got Talent". He had a perfectly okay voice, it was a poor choice of song and presentation. I do love the song--when I first heard it, it sounded to me like a very old song that I must have heard somewhere else, and I was very surprised to discover it's only about twenty years old (I heard Paul McCartney say he had the same feeling once, after he wrote "Yesterday"--"I thought it was an old blues tune" ). In looking it up I learned that, according to one web article, Cohen has written some eighty verses to it. It has umpteen verses....it's been covered by everybody and is being performed (and soundtracked) to death....My God, it's "Greensleeves" 8
--After setting up a game-show audition, I had to no-show today because my sinuses are still Teh Ick and they're "sharing the love" with the rest of me--yesterday I was pretty much knocked flat before my workday ended. Rescheduling may be possible, will research.
--Cooking project for when I feel like cooking again--recreating "fritatta nests" I saw on the Rachael Ray show. The 'nest' part is made with cooked zucchini and leeks, and the eggs have Parmesan cheese and parsley. Anything to up the veggie content is good.
