Someone on my  f-list passed along the concept of songs which have a near-immediate boosting effect on our moods, and posted hir own list.      I like the concept, so I'm passing it along.      Not all of these songs are going to be obviously upbeat--sometimes what takes me out of myself is powerful/intricate percussion, or specific, compelling images the songs conjure up.

Anyway:

"I'm A Believer",  The Monkees
"Victory",     "Lord of the Dance"   (my favorite version is from the video because you can hear a whole lotta people step-dancing at once   8)
"Time Warp", Richard O'Brien and cast, "Rocky Horror Picture Show"
"Ballroom Blitz", Sweet
"Betcha By Golly Wow", the Stylistics
"It's Raining Men", The Weather Girls
"Desert Rose", Sting
"What Would Brian Boitano Do?"    from the South Park movie
"You Should Be Dancin'", Bee Gees
"Root Beer Rag",  Billy Joel
"Old Time Rock and Roll",  Bob Seger
"Make Me Smile", Chicago
"Kansas City Star", Roger Miller ("That's what I arrrre...."  8)
"Linus and Lucy", Vince Guaraldi Trio

I just jumped away from my computer screaming.

I feel violated.
