To M.E., Whoever That May Be...
Sep. 19th, 2007 09:55 pm...who left a note wrapped around a tip in my hat this afternoon, which read "You are truly beautiful". When I'm in the middle of a song, I don't always notice details when someone drops a tip in the hat. I saw the folded note after the dropper was long gone.
Somebody else looked down at my case, smiled and said, "What? No CD's for sale?" My standard answer is :::point to hat::: "This is my 'CD recording fund' :::smile:::" This month a few stoopid nursey expenses leapt out of the woodwork on me, so even the $50 - an - hour sessions a "friend of a friend" suggested might be beyond me at the moment.
I also don't know the identity of the person who dropped a larger bill wrapped in a single.
One man who tipped also responded as the train doors opened (I always say "Have a good trip" when people have been watching me), saying "You made it better."
After working so many extra nursing shifts the last two weeks (with one more Saturday to go), I'd started to feel my "performer identity" slipping away from me again. When that happens it gets harder to get myself to the stage or the platform. Once I'm there and I've made my first connection (smile/tip/whatever) I'm always glad to have gotten out and done the show, but from home or from the day job, that "job satisfaction" is sometimes a gazillion miles away from me.
Coordinator at day job is looking for backup nurses for my case and is dubious, claiming the nurses approached are demurring, citing a lack of necessary experience. I've offered to train/orient a willing nurse if the agency will pay me for training hir. Usually after I offer to do extra work if I'm paid for it I just hear crickets.
Selling CD's and booking shows is beginning to look less demoralizing 8)
