"Recovered Sense Memory" ?
Nov. 1st, 2006 04:28 pmI had a little epiphany.
When I was a kid, the ritual of Greeting Dad At The Door was pretty faithfully observed. 5:30 pm, door opens, tired Y-chromosome enters house, promptly swarmed by daughters (do 2 daughters constitute a swarm?), followed up by more sedate greeting ritual with wife / Mom. End scene.
Fast-forward a number of years. I exchange (platonic / affectionate) greetings with a male "friend 'n' relation" I don't get to see very often. End scene.
Fast-forward to now, inside my brain. Two little memory-neurons with flashlights, presumably bumping around in the darkness up there for several years now, find each other in the same large room and finally become aware of one another.
The two greetings described above have a tiny sensory experience in common which, I now realize, my brain has come to associate with a sense of, "We're all home now, everything's all right". I believe I have now experienced a "recovered memory".
The long-term healing proceeds at its own pace 8)
